En Brooklyn, Nueva York, Sleigh bells se compone de Derek E. Miller (compositor, guitarrista, productor) y Alexis Krauss (voz). Miller fue el guitarrista de la banda hardcore Poison the Well, y Krauss fue miembro del grupo pop adolescente Rubyblue. Krauss también apareció en una revista de Nickelodeon comercial como una niña.
